LAKE FOREST, Ill. (104.3 The Score) – The Bears continued adding to their offense in the third round of the NFL Draft on Friday evening, selecting Stanford tight end Sam Roush at No. 69 overall and LSU receiver Zavion Thomas at No. 89 overall.
Roush had 119 receptions for 1,201 yards and four touchdowns in 48 games at Stanford. He joins a tight end position group led by Colston Loveland and Cole Kmet. The Bears’ selection of Roush was a bit of a surprise considering their depth at tight end.
"I didn't think I was in the cards for the Bears, but I'm frickin' fired up," Roush said.
Thomas, 22, had 106 receptions for 1,213 yards and seven touchdowns in college. He spent 2022-'23 at Mississippi State before playing at LSU the past two years. He clocked a 4.28 time in the 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine.
"Teams are going to have to worry about him whenever he's on the field," Bears assistant director of college scouting Francis Saint Paul said.
The Bears took Roush at No. 69 overall after trading back from No. 60 in a deal with the Titans. Chicago picked up a fifth-round pick (No. 144) to move back nine spots.
Earlier Friday evening, the Bears selected Iowa center Logan Jones at No. 57 overall in the second round. They took Oregon safety Dillon Thieneman at No. 25 overall in the first round Thursday.
