Bears sign veteran running back Royce Freeman

(670 The Score) The Bears on Wednesday signed veteran running back Royce Freeman to their roster.

Freeman, 29, has played six NFL seasons, rushing for 1,792 yards and 10 touchdowns over 79 games. He last saw game action in 2023 before bouncing around on the practice squads of the Cowboys, Browns, Bears and Rams in the 2024 season. He joined the Bears last December but was never elevated to the active roster.

Freeman's addition came as the Bears placed rookie running back Deion Hankins on injured reserve. Hankins suffered a quad injury in preseason action against the Bills on Sunday. The extent of his injury isn't clear. Hankins won't be eligible to return this season.

The Bears have dealt with various injuries at running back in training camp and the preseason, as Roschon Johnson (foot) and Kyle Monangai (undisclosed) have also been dealing with health issues.
