Bears to consider all quarterback options amid struggles, injuries

Bears quarterback Nick Foles is expected to avoid injured reserve after being banged up Monday.

(670 The Score) The possibility of making a quarterback change is something the Bears will consider during their bye week as starter Nick Foles and backup Mitchell Trubisky deal with injuries, coach Matt Nagy said Tuesday.

Before any decision can be made, the Bears will need clarity on the health of Foles and Trubisky. Foles has has been under center since replacing Trubisky in a Sept. 27 game, but he struggled mightily in the Bears' 19-13 loss to the Vikings on Monday night. Chicago enters its bye week at 5-5, riding a four-game losing streak and sitting outside of the NFC playoff picture.

"When you lose four games in a row, it's all on the table," Nagy said Tuesday morning.

Foles was 15-of-26 for 106 yards and an interception Monday, posting a 51.1 quarterback rating. He was carted off the field with 37 seconds remaining in the game after suffering an injury that the Bears believe was a hip/glute bruise or strain.

The Bears don't believe Foles will be placed on injured reserve. They've also been without Trubisky since he suffered a right shoulder injury on Nov. 1 in his lone snap since being benched. It's a "possibility" that Trubisky could be cleared to play when the Bears visit the Packers on Nov. 29, Nagy said.

Foles has completed 65% of his passes for 1,852 yards, 10 touchdowns and eight interceptions this season. The Bears have gone 2-5 in the seven games started by Foles, who also led them to a comeback victory against the Falcons when he replaced Trubisky mid-game on Sept. 27.

Playing in the final season of his rookie contract, Trubisky completed 59.3% of his passes for 560 yards, six touchdowns and three interceptions in his three starts this season.

If neither Trubisky nor Foles is healthy enough to play on Nov. 29, the Bears would likely be forced to start third-string quarterback Tyler Bray. An eight-year NFL veteran, Bray made his second career appearance Monday, going 1-of-5 for 18 yards on the Bears' final drive of the loss.

The Bears will return to Halas Hall next week in preparation for their game against the Packers.
