Report: Bears to sign tight end Durham Smythe
(670 The Score) Veteran tight end Durham Smythe and the Bears have agreed to a one-year deal, the NFL Network reported Thursday morning.
Smythe, 29, is a seven-year NFL veteran who has played his entire career with the Dolphins. Bears head coach Ben Johnson worked as an assistant in Miami when the Dolphins selected Smythe in the fourth round of the 2018 NFL Draft.
Smythe has 132 career receptions for 1,228 yards and three scores while primarily playing in a reserve role at tight end.
The Dolphins released Smythe in February, meaning he's eligible to sign with the Bears immediately rather than waiting for the start of the new league year next Wednesday.
