(670 The Score) As wonderful of a story as Bears undrafted quarterback Tyson Bagent has been in training camp and the preseason, 670 The Score midday host Dan Bernstein would like to slow the roll just a bit.

His advice to fans clamoring for Bagent to be placed on the 53-man active roster and to land the backup quarterback job is to rein in their euphoria and expectations a bit.

“How did we go so quickly, skipping all the others steps, 100 miles per hour, to like, ‘Oh my god, they have to put him on the active roster right now or everybody else in the league is going to come take him away and then what?’” Bernstein said. “What? What are we doing? What happened to us here? Why can’t it be a nice story that a Division-II quarterback given an opportunity in a training camp looks the part and can make some throws and may be establishing himself as a development prospect? Isn’t that OK?

“What are we doing?”

Bagent was 9-of-10 for 76 yards and added a two-yard touchdown run in the Bears’ loss to the Colts in preseason action Saturday. He has been impressive throughout training camp, while veteran quarterback PJ Walker – the presumed backup to starter Justin Fields – has struggled.
