Contract dispute between Jaquan Brisker, Bears cleared up as he signs rookie deal

LAKE FOREST, Ill. (670 The Score) -- Bears rookie safety Jaquan Brisker has signed his contract with the team and is set to begin training camp, general manager Ryan Poles said Tuesday as players reported to Halas Hall.

In officially signing his rookie contract, Brisker ended a contract dispute that would've jeopardized his chance of starting immediately in the Bears' secondary. He was the last of Chicago's 11-man draft class to sign his contract.

The No. 48 overall pick in the second round of the NFL Draft in late April, Brisker had a disagreement with the Bears over the terms of guaranteed money associated with the deal, a source said. A first-time general manager, Poles was reluctant to budge in negotiations and set a precedent that agents could compromise moving forward.

"I gave him a big hug when I saw him and I am excited for him and the direction he is going, just like all the other rookies that came in in the offseason," Poles said Tuesday. "He's headed in the right direction, and I am excited to see what he does this training camp and during the season."

Terms of Brisker's contract weren't immediately clear, but his draft slot with the No. 48 overall pick comes with $7,355,538 in base salary over the length of a four-year deal, according to Spotrac.

Brisker projects to start in the Bears' reshaped secondary alongside veteran safety Eddie Jackson, cornerback Jaylon Johnson and rookie cornerback Kyler Gordon, who was also a second-round pick.

The Bears will hold their first practice of training camp Wednesday at Halas Hall.
