Former Bears head coach Dick Jauron dies at 74
(670 The Score) Former Bears head coach Dick Jauron has died at the age of 74.
Jauron led the Bears to a 13-3 season and the NFC Central title in 2001, earning AP Coach of the Year honors for his work that year.
Born in Peoria, Jauron spent parts of 10 years as an NFL head coach. He led the Bears from 1999-2003, served as the Lions' interim head coach for five games in 2005 and then coached the Bills from 2006-'09.
"Great coach (and) best human being you could ever learn and play for," former Bears quarterback Jim Miller said. "God bless his family."
Jauron attended high school in Swampscott, Massachusetts and graduated from Yale in 1973. He was a fourth-round pick of the Lions, playing eight years as an NFL safety. Jauron entered the coaching ranks in 1985 as the Bills' safeties coach.
Jauron spent two seasons as the Browns' defensive coordinator in 2011-'12 before retiring from coaching.
Jauron and his wife, Gail, had two daughters, Kay and Amy.
