Jaylon Johnson's timeline for a return remains uncertain: 'There's a scenario where he's ready for Week 1'

LAKE FOREST, Ill. (670 The Score) – Bears star cornerback Jaylon Johnson remains sidelined from practice with a leg injury, and it's unclear when he'll return.

Johnson opened up camp on the non-football injury list after suffering the leg injury while training in the offseason. He has been present with the team at Halas Hall but not seen during practices. On Thursday, Bears head coach Ben Johnson was asked what the best-case scenario is for Johnson as he works to return to action.

"I think there's a scenario where he's ready for Week 1," Bears head coach Ben Johnson said.

The 26-year-old Johnson earned Pro Bowl honors the last two seasons.

Without Johnson healthy, the Bears have shifted veteran Nahshon Wright in at cornerback opposite of Tyrique Stevenson. Nick McCloud has also mixed in with the starting defense.

Bears defensive coordinator Dennis Allen left open the possibility of the cornerback position opposite Johnson being open for the taking.

"I think it's completely up for grabs," Allen said. "You saw it out there today.
You saw some different guys going out there with the ones. And I think that's how you develop the very best defense that you can, is create as much competition as you can and let the tape make the decision. And that's really what it's about."

The Bears will hold practice Thursday morning at Halas Hall. The players will be off Friday.
