CHICAGO (670 The Score) – The Bears have showcased improvement in 2023, as evidenced by their 37-17 win against the Falcons on Sunday at Soldier Field, but head coach Matt Eberflus' future with the organization still remains uncertain.
The Bears haven't yet publicly committed to Eberflus returning for a third season in 2024. President Kevin Warren hasn't addressed the media since his introduction last January, while general manager Ryan Poles hasn't been made available to reporters since early November.
After the Bears improved to 7-9 on Sunday, Eberflus declined to speculate on whether he has earned another season to lead the team.
"My eyes are forward on the corrections of this game," Eberflus said. "I really don't pay attention to that. I'm a football coach, so I know there's always going to be noise, good or bad. If you listen to either one of them, guess what? You ain't doing your job. For me, doing my job is focusing on the men in that locker room, the coaches and the development of the Chicago Bears. That's what I'm going to do.
"I'm focusing on right here, right now. We'll have all those conversations at the end (of the season) with everybody involved, and certainly excited to have those conversations."
NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport made headlines Saturday evening when he speculated the Bears will likely retain Eberflus, a common sentiment as Chicago has won seven of its last 12 games after its ugly 0-4 start. After going an NFL-worst 3-14 in 2022, the Bears have more than doubled their win total in 2023 and have made considerable improvements. Eberflus is now 10-23 in his Bears tenure.
The Bears visit the Packers next Sunday for their regular-season finale, a game that could potentially play a role in deciding Eberflus' future.
