Quinton Spain could be an option for Bears to shore up struggling offensive line

Spain, 29, was released by the Bills on Wednesday.

(670 The Score) If the Bears are seeking to fortify their struggling offensive line with outside help, a new option has emerged.

The Bills released six-year veteran guard Quinton Spain on Wednesday, making him immediately available to be signed. Spain, 29, has played in 70 games and started in 66 since signing with the Titans as an undrafted free agent in 2015.

For the Bears, Spain could be a replacement for injured left guard James Daniels and offer veteran stability for a team whose offensive line is a concern. Daniels suffered a season-ending pectoral tear in the Bears' win against the Buccaneers on Oct. 8. Reserve lineman Rashaad Coward started in Daniels' place in Chicago's win at Carolina on Sunday and struggled at times.

"There's a couple of plays here and there that Rashaad had that he probably wants back," Bears coach Matt Nagy said. "But I thought there's a lot of other plays where, all things considered, he did a pretty good job. We just got to keep plugging away."

Before turning to Coward, the Bears had also considered starting Alex Bars, a second-year guard out of Notre Dame.

Spain signed a three-year, $15-million deal in Buffalo this past offseason. He missed the Bills' previous two games with a foot injury and hadn't started since their second game of the season Sept. 20. It wasn't immediately clear why Buffalo released Spain.

The Bears could also turn to the trade market if they seek outside help at guard. The deadline to make a deal is Nov. 3.
