(670 The Score) The NFL on Tuesday officially approved the expansion to a 17-game regular season, which will begin in 2021. But the vote wasn't unanimous among the league's owners.
Bears chairman George McCaskey voted against a 17-game regular season,ESPN reported. It wasn't immediately clear why that was the case.
The expanded regular season is expected to bring the NFL significant additional revenue, and it was a change that was allowed after the passing of the collective bargaining agreement in March of 2020.
"This is a monumental moment in NFL history," NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said in a statement after the announcement was made official.
The Bears' 17th game will be played on the road against the Raiders.
