(RADIO.COM Sports) Saints cornerback C.J. Gardner-Johnson verbally punched back on Instagram after taking a couple hits from Bears receiver Javon Wims in New Orleans' 26-23 overtime win at Chicago on Sunday.
After being punched twice in the helmet by Wims in the third quarter, Gardner-Johnson took a sexist jab at Wims in response to the bizarre incident.
"That man punch like a female," he wrote on his Instagram story with a laughing face emoji.
Gardner-Johnson will get the last laugh out of the incident.
Beyond that 15-yard penalty that contributed to a Bears drive stalling in their loss, Wims was immediately ejected from the game -- and walked off the field clapping, for some reason. Wims likely faces further discipline from the NFL, with a decision that could come as soon as Monday.
The incident apparently stemmed from Wims taking issue with Gardner-Johnson ripping his mouthpiece out and throwing it to the ground earlier in the game.
"We talked to him and told him that's not how things go here," Bears coach Matt Nagy said of Wims after the game.
The punches left many bewildered, including Gardner-Johnson, who seemingly had no idea what was going on and didn't react until the second punch was thrown, which led to a scrum between both teams and Saints teammate Janoris Jenkins pulling Wims off of Gardner-Johnson.
The Saints improved to 5-2, while the Bears fell to 5-3.
