(104.3 The Score) The Bears have agreed to trade defensive tackle Gervon Dexter Sr. to the Falcons for cornerback Clark Phillips III and a fifth-round pick, a source confirmed Sunday.
Dexter, 24, was a three-year starter for the Bears. He was a second-round pick in 2023, playing 49 games for the team at defensive tackle.
The Bears began shopping Dexter on the trade market earlier this week. His market included the Falcons, who are led by first-year general manager Ian Cunningham, who was the assistant general manager in Chicago for the last four years.
The Bears shopped Dexter after investing in their defensive line this offseason. Chicago added defensive tackles Neville Gallimore, Kentavius Street and James Lynch in free agency, then selected Jordan van den Berg in the sixth round. That seemed to enhance their comfort in dealing Dexter away.
Phillips, 24, was a fourth-round pick of the Falcons in 2023. He played three seasons in Atlanta and will offer depth and flexibility in Chicago's secondary.
The deal was struck on Sunday morning. Teams must trim their rosters to 53 players by 5 p.m. CT on Sunday.
