Bears linebacker T.J. Edwards explains how his team takes accountability
(670 The Score) After a disappointing loss to the Colts on Sunday, the Bears preached the need for accountability. So, what exactly does that look like?
Bears linebacker T.J. Edwards explained that it starts in film review – with both players and coaches accepting the blame for their miscues in each game.
"In our business, I think accountability is everyone," Edwards said in an interview with Dan Bernstein and Kevin Fishbain on 670 The Score on Tuesday. "It's the coaches included, it's the players, whether we're watching the tape and it's like, 'If I had this over again, I probably wouldn't have called this in this situation or this point in the game.' So, it's taking ownership just in terms of this is a relationship we have, coach to player, player to coach. It's never, 'You messed this up. This is on you,' and all that.
"When you're watching the tape and a big play happens, it's guys saying, 'That's on me. I need to do a better job with this, holding this leverage or dropping my depth to take that window away,' which is what happens a little bit. And I think that's all good, especially for the younger guys to hear, to know that even our main guys, our core guys, are taking ownership and accountability. That will eventually domino effect to everyone else.
"We do have something special here. We believe it. But in the NFL, you're only as good as your last win and your last loss, and we got to go out there to prove who we are."
The Bears (1-2) host the Rams (1-2) on Sunday at Soldier Field.
