(670 The Score) The Blackhawks selected 18-year-old goalie Drew Commesso with the No. 46 overall pick in the second round of the NHL Draft on Wednesday.
Commesso comes from the U.S. National Team Development Program. He's set to play at Boston University this coming season after recording a .920 save percentage for the USNTDP last season.
"I'm very happy to be at Boston University right now," Commesso said. "They've had a great record of putting out really top-end goalies. Hopefully I can continue that tradition and spend a few years develop there and mature there and grow my game there. Definitely a few years at Boston University, then we'll go from there."
Commesso shared a scouting report on his own game.
"My strengths right now are I'm a really calm and efficient goalie," Commesso said. "You don't really find me scrambling or making those crazy highlight-reel too much. I'd rather just make a simple save in my chest. I try to simplify the game as much as possible and be very efficient. I think that helps my team a lot.
"As I go into college, the game is going to get faster. I want to work on my rebound control and skating. Those are two big areas I want to work on."
With the No. 17 overall pick in the first round Tuesday evening, the Blackhawks selected 18-year-old German forward Lucas Reichel.
In the third round Wednesday, the Blackhawks selected center Landon Slaggert at No. 79 overall and defenseman Wyatt Kaiser at No. 81 overall. Slaggert also comes from the USNTDP, while Kaiser played for Andover in the Minnesota league.
Chicago took Czech defenseman Michael Krutil in the fourth round at No. 110. He plays for Sparta Jr. in the Czech Republic.
At No. 141 overall in the fifth round, the Blackhawks drafted Canadian defenseman Isaak Phillips, who played for Sudbury in the Ontario Hockey League.
In the sixth round, the Blackhawks selected Canadian center Chad Yetman at No. 172 overall. He played for Erie in the OHL.
The Blackhawk also acquired a seventh-round pick from the Canadiens, which they used to take defenseman Louis Crevier at No. 188 overall. He played for the Chicoutimi Sagueneens of the QMJHL this past season.
