(670 The Score) The Blackhawks have signed 18-year-old defenseman Kevin Korchinski to an entry-level contract, the team announced Wednesday morning.
The Blackhawks selected Korchinski at No. 7 overall in the NHL Draft in July. He inked a three-year deal with a $950,000 cap hit. The expectation is that Korchinski will play in the WHL in the upcoming season.
"Signing Kevin is an exciting moment and another step in us building organizational depth," general manager Kyle Davidson said in a statement. "We knew that we wanted Kevin to be a big part of this team's future, so we're happy to have him within our system, developing in this early part of his professional career. His confidence and positive attitude paired with his size will be assets as he continues to grow his game in the WHL this upcoming season."
The 6-foot-2, 185-pound Korchinski played for the Seattle Thunderbirds of the WHL last season, when he had four goals and 61 assists in 67 games.
