(670 The Score) Despite the Bulls struggling as they sit at 26-29 and ninth in the East, executive vice president of basketball operations Arturas Karnisovas has given coach Billy Donovan a glowing review.
"In terms of Billy and his staff, they've done an unbelievable job this year," Karnisovas said on the Mully & Haugh Show on 670 The Score on Friday morning, a day after the Bulls were inactive as the trade deadline came and went. "I'm there with them in the same building. We've tried to engage this group and to improve this group. Again, the results are not there. But there are so many close games that we lost this year, which is obviously reflecting our standings right now. And it's a disappointing thing. A couple games go our way, we are .500. Is that where we want to be? No. The objective obviously is going to be, we got to do better than that. We'll look at everything and make sure that by April, we have our thoughts put together."
Donovan originally signed a four-year deal with the Bulls ahead of the 2020-'21 season. He quietly received a contract extension this past offseason, a development that the Bulls puzzlingly never publicly announced but which was leaked through the media in late November. When asked directly Friday why the Bulls didn't announce Donovan's extension, Karnisovas sidestepped the question.
Donovan is 103-106 (.493) leading the Bulls across three seasons in Chicago.
