(670 The Score) The Bulls have taken care of one of their biggest items of business in free agency.
Guard Coby White has agreed to a three-year deal to return to the Bulls, according to multiple reports Friday evening. The contract could be worth up to $40 million, K.C. Johnson of NBC Sports Chicago reported. It includes at least $33 million guaranteed. White was a restricted free agent, but the sides quickly finalized a deal without White searching out an offer sheet from another team.
White, 23, averaged 9.7 points, 2.9 rebounds and 2.8 assists in 23.4 minutes across 74 games last season, when he came off the bench in all but two games. He's one of the Bulls' few long-range threats, as he shot 37.2% from 3-point range on high volume. While his scoring average declined last season, White progressed as an all-around player and showcased improvement in a handful of subtle ways, including with his defense and his decision-making when he attacked the rim.
Depending on how the rest of free agency plays out and how the Bulls use their mid-level exception, White could be in the mix to start at point guard for Chicago in 2023-'24. The Bulls selected White at No. 7 overall in the 2019 NBA Draft.
White is the third member of the Bulls' rotation to return to the team in recent days. On Wednesday, starting center Nikola Vucevic signed a new three-year, $60-million deal with team. On Thursday, reserve center Andre Drummond exercised his $3.36-million player option for the upcoming season.
