Bulls' Patrick Williams suffers severe left ankle sprain, is expected to be out 4-6 weeks

(670 The Score) The Bulls shared bad news on the injury front Friday, just days before training camp is set to begin.

Second-year forward Patrick Williams is expected to be out four to six weeks with a severe left ankle sprain, the team said. He suffered the injury during an individual workout on Sept. 15. Williams averaged 9.2 points and 4.6 rebounds while starting 71 games as a rookie last season and is slotted to be a starter when he's healthy. Williams is currently undergoing daily treatment.

The Bulls open the regular season at the Detroit Pistons on Oct. 20, meaning Williams is likely to miss the start of the campaign. Oct. 22 represents the four-week mark from the Bulls' revelation Friday of his injury.

Nov. 5 would represents the six-week mark. The Bulls plays eight regular-season games before that date.

In another injury update, guard Coby White is expected to make a full return in November, the team said. He underwent left shoulder surgery on June 10. White will participate in non-contact work when training camp gets going. He averaged 15.1 points and 4.8 assists in 69 games, including 54 starts, last season.

The Bulls will hold media day Monday, then have their first practice scheduled for Tuesday.
