(The Score) Bulls guard Coby White, the longest-tenured player on the team, is on the move.
The Bulls have agreed to a trade that will send White and recently acquired veteran point guard Mike Conley Jr. to the Hornets for guard Collin Sexton, big man Ousmane Dieng and three second-round picks, Shams Charania of ESPN reported Wednesday afternoon.
White, 27, had been with the Bulls since they selected him at No. 7 overall in the 2019 NBA Draft. He’s set to hit unrestricted free agency this summer, which put his future with Chicago in question. The Bulls answered that Wednesday by trading him for a return headlined by the second-round draft capital.
White was averaging 18.6 points and 4.7 assists in 29 games this season. He had been slowed by a calf ailment. White will bring more firepower to a red-hot Hornets team that’s looking to make noise in pushing for a play-in berth and potential playoff spot. White has averaged 15.4 points and shot 36.8% on 3-pointers in his seven-year NBA career.
Sexton, 27, was the No. 8 overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft. He’s set to his unrestricted free agency this summer. He was averaging 14.2 points in 42 games for Charlotte this season, primarily in a role off the bench. Sexton is a career 38.8% shooter from 3-point range in eight NBA seasons. The Bulls will be his fourth NBA team.
The Bulls acquired Conley from the Timberwolves on Tuesday in what amounted to a salary dump for Minnesota.
The 6-foot-9 Dieng was the 11th overall pick of the Thunder in the 2022 NBA Draft. He was averaging 3.7 points and 1.6 rebounds in 10.9 minutes in 27 games for the Thunder this season before getting routed to the Bulls via the Hornets. He’s in line to be a restricted free agent this offseason.
