Cubs Coach Mike Borzello Suspended 1 Game

Borzello was disciplined for "excessive arguing" in a benches-clearing incident Saturday.

(670 The Score) Cubs catching coach Mike Borzello has been suspended one game and fined by MLB for his actions in a benches-clearing incident against the Reds on Saturday evening.

Borzello was punished for "excessive arguing, using inappropriate language and failing to leave the dugout," MLB said in a statement. Borzello was the only member of the Cubs to be disciplined. Reds manager David Bell and outfielder Jesse Winker were each suspended one game and fined as well for their actions. Reds first baseman Joey Votto received a fine.

The amount of Borzello's fine wasn't disclosed. He'll serve his suspension when Chicago visits Pittsburgh on Tuesday.

The drama started after Reds right-hander Tejay Antone threw a fastball above Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo's head in the second game of a doubleheader Saturday. Cubs manager David Ross was ejected for arguing with umpires about the pitch above Rizzo's head. Cubs right-hander Adbert Alzolay later threw high and tight to Reds outfielder Shogo Akiyama, leading the benches to clear.
