Cubs continuing their search for a new general manager

(670 The Score) The Cubs continue to be engaged with numerous individuals as they look for a new general manager, sources said, a search that will become more focused when their season ends.

The position has been open since lead executive Theo Epstein resigned last November and then-general manager Jed Hoyer was promoted to president of baseball operations.

The Cubs would like to have a new general manager hired before the annual GM meetings, which usually take place in early November not long after the World Series concludes.

Hoyer put the search for a new general manager on hold last winter because he felt the COVID-19 pandemic would prevent him from spending the necessary time with candidates in person as he looks to get to know them. Hoyer did promote Jeff Greenberg and Craig Breslow to assistant general manager jobs in late 2020, and they helped him by taking on more responsibilities.

The Cubs have had contact with upward of six individuals at this point in their search, sources said.
