(670 The Score) While the Cubs have an offseason filled with uncertainty awaiting them, they're sure enjoying living in the moment.
After a sluggish start to their season in April, the Cubs have surged into first place in the NL Central at 31-23 with a hot stretch in May and emerged as a true playoff contender. Amid the uncertainty about whether first baseman Anthony Rizzo, third baseman Kris Bryant and shortstop Javier Baez will return next season as they're set to hit free agency, the team is enjoying playing together and having success.
"We understand that these guys are free agents," Cubs outfielder Ian Happ said on the Bernstein & Rahimi Show on Thursday morning. "We understand that there are plenty of guys who are one or two years away from something, whatever that may be. And we're very honest and upfront about that. But right now, we're having a great time playing together. We're winning baseball games. We're playing great baseball.
"The camaraderie in the clubhouse, the flow of the lineup, the bullpen, the starting rotation, it's all pretty good right now. I think guys are just really excited to come to the park, see each other and play great baseball."
The Cubs open a four-game series against the Giants in San Francisco on Thursday. First pitch at Oracle Park is scheduled for 8:45 p.m. CT. The game can be heard on 670 The Score, the radio home for the Cubs.
