Cubs land lefty reliever Taylor Rogers in a trade with Pirates
(670 The Score) The Cubs acquired lefty reliever Taylor Rogers from the Pirates just before the trade deadline Thursday evening.
Rogers, 34, had a 2.45 ERA and 1.46 WHIP in 33 innings across 40 appearances for the Reds this season. He was acquired by the Pirates from the Reds earlier this week in a deal that sent third baseman Ke'Bryan Hayes to Cincinnati.
Rogers is a 10-year MLB veteran with a career 3.28 ERA in 549 appearances. He was an All-Star in 2021 with the Twins.
In a corresponding move, the Cubs designated reliever Ryan Pressly for assignment. He had a 4.35 ERA in 44 appearances for the Cubs this season.
To acquire Rogers, the Cubs sent high-A outfielder Ivan Brethowr to the Pirates.
The Cubs have had a busy past 24 hours. Prior to reaching the deal to acquire Rogers, the Cubs landed utilityman Willi Castro from the Twins on Thursday afternoon and right-hander Michael Soroka from the Nationals and reliever Andrew Kittredge from the Orioles on Wednesday.
The Cubs (63-45) are one game behind the NL Central-leading Brewers.
