(670 The Score) The Cubs and the Marquee Sports Network have hired Jon “Boog” Sciambi as their new television play-by-play announcer, they said Monday.
Sciambi replaces Len Kasper, who left to become the White Sox’s radio play-by-play man.
“Having the opportunity to come to Wrigley Field and call games for the Chicago Cubs every day is surreal,” Sciambi said in a statement. “It really doesn’t get better than that. Chicago is one of the best cities, and Wrigley is the best ballpark out there.”
Sciambi joins the Cubs after working at ESPN in numerous roles since 2010, including as the voice of “Sunday Night Baseball” on ESPN Radio and as the regular play-by-play man on “Wednesday Night Baseball” telecasts since 2014. Sciambi will continue to do national broadcast work for ESPN while calling around 130 Cubs games a season, Patrick Mooney of the Athletic reported.
Sciambi also served as the lead play-by-play television announcer for the Braves from 2007-’09 and the radio voice for the Marlins from 1997-2004.
“There was no shortage of interest in this position and deservedly so,” Marquee Sports Network general manager Mike McCarthy said in a statement. “It is one of the premier spots in sports broadcast history, and no one is more deserving of the seat than Jon. His personality, energy and baseball credibility make him the perfect choice to succeed the legends who have preceded him.”
