Cubs name Kyle Hendricks their Opening Day starter

Hendricks will start on Opening Day for a second straight season.

(670 The Score) The Cubs have named right-hander Kyle Hendricks their Opening Day starter for a second straight season, manager David Ross revealed Tuesday.

Hendricks will be the Cubs' starter when they host the Pirates at Wrigley Field on April 1. He also was the team's Opening Day starter last season, marking the first time in his career that he had that honor.

Hendricks, 31, has been with the Cubs since 2014. He's 69-48 with a 3.12 ERA over 175 games with Chicago. Following the trade of right-hander Yu Darvish in December, Hendricks became the Cubs' undisputed staff ace.

Hendricks was 6-5 with a 2.88 ERA in 81 1/3 innings of work across 12 starts in the 60-game 2020 season. He finished ninth in National League Cy Young voting.

The Pirates haven't yet named an Opening Day starter to face the Cubs.
