(670 The Score) The Cubs have acquired left-hander Sean Newcomb from the Braves in exchange for right-hander Jesse Chavez and cash consideration, the club announced Wednesday night.
Newcomb, 28, was recently designated for assignment by the Braves after logged five innings in three appearances this season, posting a 7.20 ERA in that small sample size. He has a career 4.25 ERA in six MLB seasons and had a 4.73 ERA and 1.70 WHIP in 32 appearances in 2021.
Chavez, 38, has a 6.35 ERA and 1.59 WHIP in 5 2/3 innings in three appearances this season. He has a career 4.45 ERA in 15 MLB seasons.
Chavez joined the Cubs on a minor league deal in March.
