Right-hander James Norwood, left-hander Kyle Ryan and left-hander Justin Steele were optioned to Triple-A Iowa. Left-hander Brailyn Marquez – the Cubs' top prospect – was optioned to Double-A Tennessee to open his season.
Additionally, non-roster invitees in right-hander Joe Biagini, catcher Jose Lobaton, outfielder Michael Hermosillo, outfielder Nick Martini and outfielder Ian Miller were assigned to minor league camp.
Chicago's roster now sits at 38 players.
