Jed Hoyer vows that his contract uncertainty isn't affecting his decisions leading the Cubs
(670 The Score) Cubs president of baseball operations Jed Hoyer faces pressure for his club to have success in 2025 as he has entered the final year of his contract.
But Hoyer has vowed that those personal implications haven't changed and won't change how he approaches his strategy of leading the Cubs forward, as he explained on the Spiegel & Holmes Show on Friday afternoon at Cubs Convention. He plans to make decisions with the same prudent approach.
"I'm employed by the Ricketts to sign players and build a team as best I can," Hoyer said. "Sometimes that's thinking about the future entirely, which we've done at times. Sometimes, that's blending them. And sometimes that's really saying, 'OK, now is the right time.' And, really, that's what's going to determine the actions that we make. What is the right thing for this team and this organization?
"I'm such a small part of the Cubs and the Cubs' ecosystem. Like, it's all about the fans and the future. That's my job, is to do the best job for this entity and I don't think about my own stuff.
"We're in a really competitive window, and I think we have a chance to be really good."
Hoyer was named to his current role in November 2020, when then-Cubs top executive Theo Epstein stepped away. Hoyer had served as general manager under Epstein. Hoyer was hired by the Cubs in late 2011.
