(WFAN) The Anthony Rizzo era is off to a smashing start in the Bronx.
Rizzo, who hit 14 homers in 92 games with the Cubs before joining the Yankees via a trade Thursday, smacked his first in pinstripes Friday night, driving a blast into the second deck in right field at Marlins Park in the sixth inning off Marlins right-hander Zach Thompson.
With one out in the sixth, Rizzo took Thompson's 0-1 pitch, a 90.6-mph four-seamer, 449 feet into the middle of the second deck, the ball leaving the bat at an exit velocity of 112 mph. It broke a scoreless tie to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead -- and perhaps just as sweet, it was caught by a young fan wearing Yankees gear.
