(670 The Score) The White Sox's strong play continues to lead to individual recognition as well.
That was showcased Wednesday, when first baseman Jose Abreu was named the American League Player of the Month for July/August and center fielder Luis Robert was named the AL Rookie of the Month for the same stretch. It marked the third Player of the Month honor for Abreu in his career, while it was the first such honor for Robert.
Abreu hit .315 with 12 homers, 32 RBIs and a .996 OPS in 35 games over the course of July and August. He hit safely in 27 games, including the last 14 of August. He's currently on a 15-game hitting streak that continued on the first day of September. Abreu's big month was highlighted by his six homers in a three-game series against the Cubs from Aug. 21-23.
Robert hit .298 with 10 homers, 24 RBIs, 22 runs and four steals in 33 games across July and August. Robert's current 1.6 fWAR ranks third in the AL among all position players.
The White Sox are 22-14 and tied with the Indians for first place in the AL Central.
