(670 The Score) White Sox ace Lucas Giolito was named the American League Pitcher of the Week, MLB announced Monday.
The honor was expected, as Giolito fired a masterful no-hitter in a win against the Pirates last Tuesday, when he struck out 13 batters and walked just one. It was the 19th no-hitter in White Sox history and the first of Giolito's big league career.
Giolito is 3-2 with a 3.09 ERA and 1.01 WHIP in seven starts this season. He's also striking out 11.95 batters per nine innings.
The White Sox have won 11 of their past 13 games to improve to 21-13 and sit in a first-place tie with the Indians in the AL Central.
Giolito starts for Chicago when it plays at Minnesota on Monday evening. The Twins trail the White Sox and Indians by 1.5 games in the division.
