Lucas Giolito, White Sox reach deal to avoid arbitration after initial hard feelings

(670 The Score) Right-hander Lucas Giolito and the White Sox have avoided arbitration after all.

Giolito and the White Sox have agreed on a $7.45-million contract for the 2022 season, the club announced Friday. The news came just more than a week after they failed to reach an agreement by the deadline to exchange figures, a development that upset Giolito. Previously, Giolito had filed for $7.5 million, while the White Sox countered at $7.3 million. He had also suggested the sides were just $50,000 apart in negotiations at one point.

Giolito, 27, went 11-9 with a 3.53 ERA and 1.10 WHIP in 178 2/3 innings in 31 starts in 2021, when he made $4.15 million. He was in his second year of arbitration.

The White Sox now have all players on their 40-man roster under contract for 2022.
