Luis Robert finishes 2nd in AL Rookie of the Year voting

Mariners outfielder Kyle Lewis beat out Robert for the AL's top rookie honor.

(670 The Score) White Sox center fielder Luis Robert finished second in the American League Rookie of the Year voting, the Baseball Writers' Association of America announced Monday evening. Mariners outfielder Kyle Lewis won the honor in a unanimous decision.

The 23-year-old Robert earned 27 second-place votes and two third-place votes. He hit .233 with 11 homers, 31 RBIs, 33 runs, nine steals and a .738 OPS in 56 games. Robert had a hot start to the season, which included him posting nine homers, 20 RBIs and a 1.015 OPS in August. He struggled down the stretch, batting .136 with one homer and a .409 OPS in September.


Robert was spectacular defensively, winning a Gold Glove award in center field in the AL.

The White Sox last had a Rookie of the Year winner in 2014, when first baseman Jose Abreu earned the award.
