(670 The Score) The White Sox have designated reliever Jose Ruiz for assignment, they announced Friday.
Ruiz had struggled in allowing nine earned runs in 3 2/3 innings of work (22.09 ERA) in four appearances early on this season. He posted a 4.56 ERA for the White Sox across parts of six seasons.
In a corresponding move, Chicago selected the contract of right-hander Jesse Scholtens from Triple-A Charlotte. He posted a 4.10 ERA in 83 1/3 innings for Triple-A El Paso in the Padres' organization in 2022 before the White Sox added him as a non-roster invitee to spring training this year. Scholtens has never pitched in an MLB game and has a lifetime 4.29 ERA in his minor league career.
