(670 The Score) White Sox ace Dylan Cease is making history amid a sensational stretch that dates back to late May.
After tossing six innings of one-run ball in a 4-1 win against the Athletics on Sunday, Cease is the second pitcher in MLB history since 1913 to have a streak of 12 straight starts in which he allowed one or zero earned runs in each start, with a minimum of 50 innings thrown during that span, according to ESPN Stats & Info. Earned runs became an official stat in both leagues in 1913. The other pitcher to accomplish the feat was Mets ace Jacob deGrom in 2021.
Since taking the mound on May 29 – when he hurled seven innings against the Cubs in which he allowed one run, which was unearned – Cease has compiled a 0.51 ERA across 12 starts. That's the best mark in MLB by a wide margin.
The 26-year-old Cease has a 2.01 ERA for the season, which ranks second in the American League and third in all of MLB. His 161 strikeouts are second in MLB, trailing only Yankees ace Gerrit Cole (162).
