White Sox place Andrew Vaughn on COVID-19 injured list

Vaughn is asymptomatic, and no other White Sox players were impacted.

(670 The Score) The White Sox placed left fielder Andrew Vaughn on the COVID-19 injured list, the team announced before its game Thursday evening.

Vaughn is asymptomatic, and the White Sox said no other players were impacted. The team called up first baseman Gavin Sheets to take Vaughn's roster spot.

"In compliance with MLB's existing COVID-19 protocols, Andrew Vaughn has been placed on the injured list," White Sox general manager Rick Hahn said in a statement. "Andrew is currently asymptomatic and our hope is that, similar to our other IL placements of this nature, he will return shortly to the active roster. At this time, no other players on the roster are impacted."

Vaughn had previously tested positive for the virus in the winter, manager Tony La Russa told reporters. The 23-year-old Vaughn is hitting .226 with four home runs and 12 RBIs, shifting to left field for the White Sox to help fill the void caused by Eloy Jimenez's injury absence.

The White Sox open a four-game series against the Tigers on Thursday night at Guaranteed Rate Field.
