(670 The Score) White Sox general manager Rick Hahn often references the fan in himself, as he was once a teenager living in Winnetka who wrote then-Cubs general manager Dallas Green a letter with trade ideas. Nowadays, Hahn is a chief baseball executive in Chicago.
Separating his own fandom from his executive role can be difficult for Hahn, with the natural intersection of the two meeting when he watches White Sox games. Hahn often finds himself filled with emotion and may just take any anger out on the nearest object, as he explained on the new Sox Degrees podcast hosted by Jason Benetti and Len Kasper. What all has Hahn broken during games?
"Certainly many remotes," Hahn said. "Many remotes. Plenty, enough. Enough that I should stop throwing remotes. I threw a laundry basket within the last seven days. I was doing laundry and chucked the laundry basket across the room and very nearly missed -- my wife doesn't know this -- very nearly missed a lamp sitting next to the bedside. Yeah, so that's not great behavior. I'm 50 years old, a grown-ass man with a big-time job. I should not be throwing things.
"We should all be so lucky that we get to do something that we're passionate about. Even though I'm making fun of myself for the behavior and all of that, it is rooted in getting there and being passionate. We should all be so lucky to get to do something like that, and I've been very fortunate that's the path my life has chosen, as frustrating as it may be in the seventh inning of a given game."
Hahn's remote controls may be spared more this season. The White Sox are 36-23 and in first place of the AL Central. They host the Blue Jays for a three-game series beginning Tuesday night at Guaranteed Rate Field.
