(670 The Score) The White Sox continue to encounter adversity.
Right-hander Michael Kopech exited with what the team called right knee discomfort with two outs in the top of the first inning against the Rangers on Sunday at Guaranteed Rate Field. Kopech underwent an MRI, which revealed no structural damage, he told reporters postgame. Manager Tony La Russa also indicated that Kopech could return to action next weekend, though that will be determined by his progress in the coming days.
After being tended to by trainers, Kopech attempted to throw a warmup pitch to test himself but couldn't go through with the delivery, instead experiencing discomfort and stopping his motion. He then spiked the ball to the ground in frustration as he left the diamond.
Kopech has been one of the best pitchers in MLB this season, entering Sunday with a 1.94 ERA and 0.94 WHIP in 51 innings across 10 starts.
Right-hander Reynaldo Lopez replaced Kopech.
