(670 The Score) The early struggles of Cubs star third baseman Kris Bryant are unrelated to the left shoulder injury that hampered his 2018.
With Bryant managing a slash line of .239/.327/.391 with just one home run in 11 games, it's natural to wonder whether the shoulder is again an issue. But Cubs president of baseball operations Theo Epstein said that Bryant's shoulder isn't the problem.
"He feels good health-wise," Epstein said on the McNeil & Parkins Show on Thursday. "I think he could feel better at the plate. He's in a little bit of a rut now. But physically, he's in good shape."
Bryant played in only 102 games last season, missing a week in late June, a week of late July and all of August while mending the shoulder. He didn't require surgery in the offseason, instead opting for rest to the shoulder, an approach he reached after discussions with the team.
Bryant also struggled during the spring, posting a slash line of .200/.347/.375.
