(670 The Score) The White Sox can't stop getting hurt.
First baseman Jose Abreu exited Chicago's 5-1 loss at Detroit on Monday evening in pain after landing awkwardly on first base while running out a groundball in the eighth inning. Abreu was suffering from right hip soreness, the team said afterward.
Infielder Leury Garcia also exited, with left thumb soreness. X-rays were negative, the team said. He was injured when his hand was stepped on while sliding headfirst into first base in the seventh inning.
Abreu entered the day hitting .250 with three homers and nine RBIs in 16 games. Both Abreu and Garcia will be further evaluated Tuesday.
The White Sox already have five key players on the injured list in shortstop Tim Anderson (groin), second baseman Nick Madrigal (shoulder), left-hander Carlos Rodon (shoulder), right-hander Reynaldo Lopez (shoulder) and reliever Aaron Bummer (biceps strain). The team is hopeful that Anderson can return to the lineup Tuesday.
The White Sox fell to 8-9 with the loss.
