(670 The Score) White Sox right-hander Michael Kopech participated in his first throwing session Tuesday since undergoing Tommy John surgery on his throwing elbow last September.
He conducted his throwing session at the White Sox's spring training complex in Glendale, Ariz. Kopech has been ruled out for the entirety of the 2019 season.
"Today is like that milestone, that first little hurdle to jump before everything starts to take off," Kopech said in a video released by the White Sox. "Ultimately, a year from now, I know that I'm going to be better because of all these minor tweaks. And these tweaks are going to be what makes me the type of pitcher I want to become in the future, which is top-of-the-rotation caliber and a pitcher that helps us win a World Series."
Kopech was regarded as the White Sox's top pitching prospect and made his highly anticipated debut last Aug. 21. In four starts, two of which were shortened by weather, he flashed his electric stuff and also encountered some struggles, registering a 5.02 ERA in 11 innings. He's expected to be fully ready by 2020 spring training.
