(670 The Score) White Sox left-hander Carlos Rodon has been placed on the 10-day injured list with inflammation in his throwing elbow.
Rodon has an edema in the flexor mass in his throwing arm, James Fegan of the Athletic reported, and the possibility persists that the injury could be serious. Asked if Tommy John surgery is a possibility, general manager Rick Hahn responded, "Everything is on the table." Upcoming examinations will determine the extent of Rodon's ailment.
Rodon, 26, has struggled this season, posting a 5.19 ERA and 1.44 WHIP in seven starts. That included a rough outing Wednesday, when he exited after 3 2/3 innings having allowed three runs on five hits and two walks in his team's eventual 5-4 loss to the Orioles.
"The area has been tight over the whole season," Rodon said. "Nothing like yesterday. Yesterday got me a little bit. It didn't loosen up like it normally does. After the third inning, it got me good. This is super frustrating. It's out of anyone's control. It is nobody's fault. This is the second time something like this has happened (referencing previous shoulder surgery). There is nothing we can do about it."
Rodon has a long history of injury woes. He started just 12 games in 2017 due to elbow problems and made 20 starts in 2018 as he dealt with shoulder troubles.
In a corresponding move, the White Sox activated right-hander Lucas Giolito from the injured list. He has suffered from a strained left hamstring. Giolito is schedule to start when the White Sox host the Red Sox on Thursday evening.
