(670 The Score) White Sox left-hander Carlos Rodon will get his wish.
Rodon has earned the No. 5 spot in the team's rotation, opening the season as a starter just as he had hoped. He earned his role after he missed most of last season after undergoing Tommy John surgery in May 2019.
"I don't see the point of going to the bullpen," Rodon said after an outing a week ago. "I have built up this many pitches. Right now, my role is a starter. And that is what I am going to do."
Rodon, 27, is set to start when Chicago plays at Cleveland next Tuesday in its fifth game. Rodon posted a 5.19 ERA in seven appearances in 2019 before undergoing Tommy John surgery.
The rest of the White Sox's rotation is ordered as expected. Lucas Giolito will start against the Twins in the opener Friday, as previously was announced. He'll be followed in the rotation by Dallas Keuchel, Reynaldo Lopez and Dylan Cease.
Veteran left-hander Gio Gonzalez is the odd man out of the White Sox's rotation. He will be available as a sixth starter if needed and otherwise fill a role out of the bullpen, including facing left-handed hitters, general manager Rick Hahn said.
"This year of all years, we know we're going to have to remain flexibile," Hahn said. "The situation is very fluid and guys' roles could very well alter over the course of the season.
"Gio will provide some length and insurance out of the bullpen."
