(670 The Score) The coronavirus pandemic will soon force the White Sox to make some cuts.

The White Sox have informed "a number of people" in their baseball operations department that they won't be retained after their contracts expire in October, Ken Rosenthal of the Athletic reported Friday afternoon. The cuts primarily will hit those in the scouting department and others who have a focus on player development. 


The pandemic was the driving force behind the White Sox's decisions, Rosenthal reported. The MLB season will open without fans in the stands, and there's no sign yet that they'll be allowed during the 2020 campaign. The minor league season was canceled.

On Wednesday, White Sox and Bulls owner Jerry Reinsdorf told USA Today that he was facing financial losses that "are in the nine figures" across his two franchises because of the reduction in revenue during the pandemic.
