SCISSOR ME, ROOSTER!
We got that phrase out of Anthony Bowens, one half of AEW tag team The Acclaimed, when he joined Chris Russell in our studios Tuesday to promote Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite at the EagleBank Arena in Fairfax – and you knew we would get his catchphrase, given Rooster’s love of the ‘rasslin, and Bowens did indeed give some insight on cutting promos in the ring.
But one other thing we did find out about the former AEW Tag Team and Trios Champion? He not only loves baseball, he played it in college at both Montclair State and Seton Hall.
Bowens posted on Instagram a scene of him crushing a home run, and while he won’t be doing that when he visits Nationals Park Tuesday night (where Rooster will also be checking out Nats/D-Backs), he did give Rooster some insight on his diamond past.
“I played at Seton Hall and Montclair State and grew up a huge San Francisco Giants fan – sorry, Nationals fans,” Bowens said before explaining how a kid from north Jersey grew up a fan of a team that left New York in the 1950s: “It was the 2000 Division Series against the Mets, I watched them on TV and thought they were pretty cool; they lost that series and the one in 2002, but made up for it with the three rings in 2010, 2012, and 2014.”
Bowens was born in 1990, so sure, Barry Bonds launching bombs would be cool to a 10-year-old, and so is him getting to be a part of the Presidents Race at Nats Park Tuesday night; he wouldn’t say wat his role might be, but as Rooster warned he was once ‘almost trucked by one of those Presidents while holding the tape,’ he did tell Bowens to be careful.
Especially since Bowens is still playing ball?
“I'm very lucky right now that I get to do both. I'm wrestling every week on television, and then I started playing baseball again in Los Angeles on Sundays with my team, The Valley Boys, which is a social media content creation team,” Bowens revealed. “It’s really, really fun, and I get to do stuff like you saw on Instagram - hit and take batting practice at these great fields and launch some baseballs out of the ballpark. I hope at some point, putting it out into the universe, if some MLB team says we love you Scissor King Anthony Bowens, come to the field and let's hit some batting practice and show the team how it's done, I’m in. If the Nats need me, I’m available, I’ll sign a one-day deal, hit a couple bombs!”
