(SportsRadio 610) -- Astros infielders Jose Altuve and Carlos Correa announced Thursday they will not participate in the All-Star game next week.

Altuve says he is out of the game to rest his left leg. Correa says he wants to spend more time with his wife during her pregnancy.

Both of them lobbied for teammate Yuli Gurriel as a replacement.

Altuve and Correa are two of four Astros named to the American League All-Star team. This is Altuve's seventh career selection, which ties Craig Biggio for the franchise record. For Correa, this is the second career selection.

Gurriel, 37, has never made an All-Star team. But he ranks seventh among AL players in on-base percentage (.383), fourth in batting average (.316) and 10th in hits (92). He also leads the AL in plate appearance per strikeout (10.94).
