Former president Barack Obama has made it an annual tradition to publicly post his March Madness bracket and the 44th president followed through yet again this year.
Obama posted both his men’s and women’s brackets on Twitter, going all chalk in the men’s tourney by picking all No. 1 seeds to advance to the Final Four. As for his champion, the former POTUS is rolling with Gonzaga to complete the first undefeated season in college basketball since Indiana in 1976.
In the women’s tournament, Obama mixed things up a little bit, selecting No. 1 seeds Stanford and NC State, but also two No. 2 seeds in Baylor and Maryland, with Baylor topping Stanford in the championship.
While Obama’s Final Four picks were awfully conservative, he does have some upsets in the early rounds.
On the men’s side, Obama has No. 12 UCSB beating No. 5 Creighton as well as No. 13 Ohio University beating 2019 NCAA champion Virginia and advancing to the Sweet 16.
He also seemed to have trouble with the South Region’s 8-9 matchup of Wisconsin vs. North Carolina. It appears he originally picked Wisconsin before crossing them out and going with the Tar Heels.
Obama has correctly picked the NCAA Tournament winner twice since he began this tradition in 2009 — both times picking North Carolina to win it all. However, in 2019, Obama whiffed on each of his Final Four picks.
