Nick Saban and Brian Kelly are very familiar with each other. Two have met twice in their coaching careers, once during the BCS National Championship game in 2012 and the second time during the College Football Playoffs semifinals in 2020.

Although the two didn't have a formal sit down to discuss any future plans, Kelly states that he used previous conversations he had with Saban to help him make the decision to make the move from Notre Dame to LSU.

During LSU's Pro Day, Kelly recalled some of the advice the seven-time National Champ had told him and mentioned how Saban's experience coaching at LSU helped Kelly make the decision to come to Baton Rouge.

"Nick and I have always had a relationship," Kelly told CBS Sports this week. "We're busy so it's not like we're going to sit down and say, 'Hey, what do you think?"

"In our conversations, he can talk about his experiences and what the strengths are of a program like LSU. I was able to obviously put together that this was a great program and a great opportunity. He's been here and he knows. When you get advice and counsel from a guy like Nick Saban, he's a good one you take it from."

If there is any man to take advice from, it would be Saban. Before his legendary run at Alabama, the 70-year-old compiled a record of 48-16 and a 2003 national championship during his run there from 2000-04.
