The Capitals’ quest for the Stanley Cup was set to begin Monday night, with the team 16 wins away from their second-ever NHL championship.
Only a couple remain from the Caps team that won it all eight summers ago, but as Monumental’s Alan May explained to Kevin Sheehan Monday, there’s enough guys on the roster who have been to the Promised Land, or close to it, that the pressure is on for the whole squad.
But, it seems, May is confident the Caps have the chance to do just that, and bring a parade back to D.C.
“I just look at the body of work over the course of the season. They clinched the playoffs basically two months ago, and after opening night was kind of a dud, they were involved in every single game except for one or two until about the 60-game mark,” May said. “They were never out of a game, they were always in. I think they're a little bit exhausted, and once they clinched, it's like they've got it. The record hasn’t been great since them, but then again, it’s kind of like an in-season break that they were taking. We’ve seen what happens when you win the President's Trophy over the course of the season, so I expect them to come out firing.”
